Polyfilla Artist
A brief description of the work
I have developed a new method of working with the popular material of Polyfilla. The subject matter remains relatively traditional, featuring landscapes and portraits, but the medium is unusual as it gives striking and unusual results. Using Polyfilla at home for its main purpose, I noticed its ability to hold fine detail and by using various tools like brushes, rags and knives etc. it maintained all the detail even when dry, as if frozen in time. The effects can be further achieved by adding colour when the Polyfilla is wet and when the material is dry sanding down the surface revealing the image.
In addition to the Polyfilla images I also produce paintings in Oil on Glass. Of course the technique is different, more immediate but the effects are just as fascinating as the oil slips over the glass, highlighting every brush stroke applied to create an almost luminous quality to the painting. I often draw my inspiration and ideas from reproductions in print whilst attempting to bring the final image outside of its natural environment to create a surreal/imagined scene.
